Step 1: Find a Body Chart Image

First, you need an image. You can find an image from google or use our body chart image below. Our body chart image is 1280x1280.

Step 2: Create Body Part Placeholder

Next, create a calculated field for X and Y coordinates in Tableau, using the dimensions of your body chart image. This placeholder will help position your data points correctly.

Step 3: Add Background Image

In Tableau, navigate to Map > Background Images, select your data source, and click 'Add Image'. For this example, we’re using an image that is 1280x1280 pixels.

Step 4: Find X and Y Coordinates for Each Body Part

Place the X field in columns and the Y field in rows. Hover over each body part, right-click, select annotate > point, and note the coordinates.

Step 5: Update the X and Y Calculated Field

Use the coordinates you noted to update the X and Y calculated fields. Make sure your body part names match what’s in your data source.

Step 6: Fix the X and Y Axis

Fix both axes at the maximum values of your image—in this example, 1280 pixels. Convert the X and Y measures to dimensions.

Step 7: Clean Up Your Body Chart

Finally, hide the axis, format your marks, and add relevant labels to your chart. This makes your visualisation clean and easy to interpret.
