The monitoring and optimisation of athlete performance and sport science have become essential elements of competitive advantage. Acknowledging the significance of striking a balance between training loads and sufficient recovery, Cre8 Labs have embraced digital innovation to improve the way coaches evaluate player readiness and recovery. Through the creation of a tool in Microsoft PowerApps, we've modernised the Hooper Index (Hooper & Mackinnon, 1995) a crucial questionnaire that assesses sleep quality, general fatigue, stress levels, muscle soreness, and mood.

This digital tool gathers players' responses to the Hooper Index each morning, facilitating real-time observation of their perceived fatigue and recovery. With scores ranging from 1 (very low recovery levels) to 6 (optimal recovery), the application allows coaches to swiftly identify players who may be at risk of overtraining or insufficient recovery. This data is vital for tailoring training loads effectively, ensuring athletes are in prime condition for competitions.

By integrating this questionnaire into a PowerApps tool, we've simplified the data collection process, enabling coaches to monitor trends over time and modify training plans as necessary. This approach not only aids in preventing injuries by highlighting early signs of fatigue but also encourages athletes to become more aware of their bodies' needs, promoting a culture of self-awareness and proactive recovery management.
